ARIA NEEDS YOU

IFPA’s new ARIA (Adverse Reactions in Aromatherapy) reporting system is an important pilot scheme for the advance of aromatherapy. In the light of current and future regulatory/ legislative requirements, it is vital that we gather data on the safety of aromatherapy and on adverse reactions.

ARIA was launched with a pilot project to develop a system for reporting adverse reactions to a central database (see winter edition of In Essence issue, p.5). The initial group of volunteers began on 1 November, 2003, and will continue reporting until 31 July, 2004. However, members may join the study at any time and monitor their practice over nine months.

All IFPA members are invited to be involved in the development of ARIA — we need to recruit a large number of practitioners to ensure we can gather substantial amounts of data and obtain useful results.

If you would like to join the pilot scheme. you just need to:

• Inform the IFPA office that you wish to volunteer (or email: ).

You will be sent further information and an ARIA report form.

• Note your starting date. Your finish date will be nine months later.

• Note how many treatments you give during this period.

• If you encounter any adverse skin reactions fill out an ARIA form and send to the IFPA office.

• At the end of your nine months, request and return the final feedback questionnaire.
